Hi,
I have the cloudy mirror but previously went through the senerio with the child in the forest. The mother and father are now standing near the save and say that their child went back into the forest. I have searched everywhere but can't find him. Do I have to start the game over?

take the shimmering path next to the save sphere, it's a new path so it wasn't there the first time you visited the woods. in the next screen, take the left path at the intersection and the kid should be at the end

no, after talking w/ the parents go up to the rainbow-like road... there must be the intersection going up.. at first there is the girl, but if you talk to the parents and go there, the girl standing there telling the shortcut to macalania will be gone..
